Pachira is located in the northeastern corner
of Costa Rica, 5 minutes by boat from Tortuguero National
Park and accessible only by air and water.
Hidden amongst giant trees and luxuriant gardens, on
the forests banks of the Tortuguero Canals, Pachira
Lodge is the epitome of a tropical jungle retreat with
every modern convenience.
It is a comfortable
complex of wooden thatch-roofed cabins, raised on stilts
in the local style and surrounded by broad verandas
with furniture for sitting and contemplating the surroundings.
From the delicate crosshatching
of the gabled docks, to the elegantly appointed restaurant,
complete with indoor garden, to wide torch lit pathways
under the tropical night, everything about this lodge
is geared toward the comfort and relaxation of the guests.
Pachira offers 44 rooms
in 10 modules all but two connected by elevated covered,
wooden walkways joining the wide verandas.
All rooms are large
and airy, with high ceilings and lots of windows. Mint-green
walls provide a delicate counterpoint to the glowingly
polished hardwood floors and a welcoming arrangement
of tropical blossoms that sits on la low rattan table,
just inside the door, two queen –sized beds sport
a bamboo backboard and are covered with a light floral-design
bedspread matching a balance over the windows. A ceiling
fan ensures lot of air circulation; there is a sitting
area in the corner for reading a low table for luggage
and open shelving suspended by ropes along one wall
for storing personal belongings. (Open style closets
are typical in Tortuguero due to the humidity) The bathrooms
are beautifully appointed with the same pale green walls
as the room and an excellent quality shower curtain,
complete with balance. Floors are large, green ceramic
tile and the shower walls are white ceramic. Over the
sink is a bamboo mirror and small shelf. Lots of fluffy
white towels.
