The Arenal Observatory Lodge is situated 2 km southeast
of the Arenal Volcano. From El Tabacon a hot spring
recreational area 10 km outside of La Fortuna, continue
for another 4 km until you reach a turn off at the
base of the volcano. This gravel road takes you up
to the Observatory Lodge; follow the signs about 9
km crossing a small river on the way up. A four-wheel
drive vehicle is recommended during the rainy season.
Set high on a ridge facing the famous Arenal volcano,
surrounded by thousands of acres of incredible rainforest,
the Arenal Observatory Lodge offers the adventurous
traveller a unique, once-in-lifetime experience.
The observatory offers 24 rooms in two blocks, the
Observatory Block features rustic, but comfortable
cabins with bunk beds (these were originally used
by researchers at the volcano).
Smithsonian Superior rooms: There are 14 Smithsonian
room, 9 rooms have one double and one single beds
and 5 new rooms with 2 queen size beds and handicaps
facilities, each one featured with, private bath with
hot water and an excellent, direct view of the volcano
with easy chairs in front of a plate glass window
that covers the whole wall facing the volcano.
Observatory Superior rooms: There are 4 Observatory
Superior rooms with one queen size bed or two single
beds, each one featured with, private bath with hot
water and an excellent, direct view of the volcano
with easy chairs in front of a plate glass window
that covers the whole wall facing the volcano.
