Ground
transfers have become one of the most popular ways
of getting around Costa Rica. Having a driver take
you from one place to the other offers several advantages:
you do not have to worry about which route to take,
you don't take the risk of getting lost or not finding
your way on the first try, you can relax and watch
the surrounding landscapes while someone else does
the driving, and you are taken directly to your
hotel door (or other place requested).
There are several options of ground transfers to
choose from:
Private Transfers: a private driver
will pick you up directly at your hotel and take
you to the next destination. Schedules can be flexible
(unless you have to connect with other transfers
or be at a specific time in a certain place), and
you do not have to wait until the other clients
are picked up, since the driver will be there just
for you!
Transfers
with a driver-guide: they are also private transportation
services, with the plus of a knowledgeable bilingual
person taking you on your trip. They can be one-day
services, or multi-day transfers (a guide-driver
accompanying you in a portion or in your complete
itinerary). Your guide-driver will point out the
most important aspects of Costa Rica's nature and
culture and, when booked, he will take you on tour
to different parks, reserves and other areas alike.

Seat-in-bus (SIB) transfers: this
service works on pre-established routes and schedules.
A driver picks up clients in different hotels and
heads directly (non-stop) to its destination. Once
there, it goes to the different hotels to leave
the passengers. This is called a door-to-door ground
operation. An individual client usually travels
with other tourists that he/she does not know, but,
despite the inconvenience of having to wait until
everybody is picked up and dropped-off, the good
thing is that the SIB transfers are relatively economic,
and more practical than traveling by public bus.

Vehicle capacities: Different vehicles
are used for ground transportation: from minivans
to large busses. If you are organizing a group trip,
tell us the number of people that might be traveling
and take into consideration that different vehicles
are used according to their capacity. Prices vary
depending on the type of coach used.
