Situated
65 kilometers east of the city of San José,
the beautiful region of Turrialba is washed by the
pure waters of the Reventazón river, which
converted the lands into an agricultural area over
a hundred years ago. Rains throughout the year create
a green collage of primary forests, biological reserve,
reforested areas, and extensive plantations of coffee,
macadamia and sugar cane, demonstrating a perfect
balance between agricultural development and the conservation
of the wealth of nature. Activities such as kayaking,
white water rafting on the river rapids, and the biological
diversity convert Turrialba into one of the sites
most liked by those seeking scientific tourism or
adventure.

It
should be noted that even in the dry season there
are some rains, being that the country lies in the
tropical zone of the planet. The average temperature
is approximately 20°C (70°F) and can descend
to 10°C (50°F) in the highlands.
Another
of the beautiful regions of the country is San Gerardo
de Dota, only 85 kilometers southwest of the capitol
on the Pan-American highway, a natural habitat for
many species of flora and fauna, and constitutes an
ecological niche where the brilliant quetzal lives
throughout the year.
The unequaled beauty of the highland scenery provides
the unique opportunity to experience the sounds and
secrets of the tropical cloud forest and to discover
the wonders of the Costa Rican ecology. San Gerardo
de Dota is within the largest extension of protected
areas of the country, an area made up of 13 different
units which together total 95,000 hectares…
highly recommended to nature lovers.
